DOOR SPECIFICATION
Our "Heritage of Quality"
Begins with the Beauty of Wood
Our cabinet doors begin with the richness of wood, which comes
straight from nature. Constructed of many pieces of wood, each door
is unique in natural variations of color and grain patterns. Nature's
distinction is a part of the beauty and varied richness of all hardwoods.
We select only furniture grade hardwoods. Natural woods will vary
in color and characteristics, including mineral streaks, pinholes,
varied graining and darkening with age.
Wood Species & Characteristics
Available
Hard Maple: Hard Maple is a strong,
heavy, close-grained wood that is creamy white with a reddish brown
cast to the heartwood. Mineral streaks are often found and are not
considered defective. Maple possesses a uniform texture and is an
excellent choice for lighter colored finishes due to its consistency
in color.
Red Oak: Red Oak has a prominent open
grain in which the sapwood varies from a whitish or grayish brown
to a pale reddish brown, and the heartwood varies from a pink brown
to a light reddish brown. Red Oak is an excellent choice for medium
to darker finishes.
White Oak: White Oak has an open
grain that varies from a whitish light brown sapwood to a grayish
dark brown heartwood. White Oak is an excellent choice for medium
to darker finishes.
Cherry: Cherry is an elegant hardwood
that is a light reddish brown with small gum pockets that produce
distinctive markings. The sapwood varies from a whitish color to
a light yellowish brown. It is straight grained, strong and rather
hard. Cherry is unsurpassed in it's finishing qualities.
Hickory: Hickory is an open grained
wood which is white to cream in color with brown lines and tan heartwood.
It is very hard and varies greatly in grain and color.
Knotty Pine: Knotty Pine is soft and
light with straight grains and cream in color. Knots throughout
make this wood distinctive.
Mahogany: Mahogany is strong and
straight grained. It varies from light reddish or yellow-brown to
a rich, dark red.
Ash: An open grain wood that can vary
in color from a white with a yellowish cast to a white with a somewhat
grayish cast in the sapwood and moving to a definite brown in the
heartwood.
Wood Grades
Wood grades apply to the face side of the product
only.
Select: Select grade wood will provide
an overall close color and grain match for the highest uniform look.
Mineral streaks, burls, and pin knots are restricted and few in
occurrence. All natural characteristics are controlled in terms
of size and frequency. Burls and mineral may be no more than 1/8"
wide by 3" long per occurrence. Pin knots must be smooth and
no greater than 1/8" in average diameter. Smooth knots are
acceptable. Unnatural stains, streaks and spots are not acceptable.
Select grade is recommended for all light color finishes.
Regular: Regular grade wood allows
a broader range in color and grain pattern variations. Regular grade
allows for more natural variations and characteristics found in
woods. All natural characteristics of the wood species are acceptable
as long as the overall appearance blends together. Regular grade
is recommended for medium to darker finishes.
Paint Grade: Paint grade wood is blend
of close-grained wood and is non-select for color and grain pattern
and may vary considerably. Paint grade is recommended for solid
color painting.
